Position Summary:

We are seeking a talented and motivated In Vivo Pharmacology group leader in the Department of Pathology & Nonclinical Development at Lyell. The successful candidate will lead and manage Lyell’s In Vivo Pharmacology core group and manage all aspects of in vivo studies internally as well as with external CROs. The candidate will collaborate closely with Lyell’s Research groups, as well as bioinformatics, flowcytometry, and pathology core laboratories to coordinate and conduct studies, plan and maintain project timelines, and interface with facility management to maintain a well-functioning vivarium facility. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and executing various mouse tumor models assessing adoptive T-cell efficacy, mechanism of actions, and safety, and has solid experience in managing animal facilities as well as external partners. The successful candidate will display enthusiasm, teamwork, mentorship, and scientific excellence and become an active scientific thought leader within Lyell’s Research division.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, execute, and oversee Lyell’s in vivo pharmacology studies conducted internally as well as at external CROs, in collaboration with the Research groups and core function laboratories at Lyell
  • Implement new, innovative in vivo pharmacology and biomedical imaging models to study efficacy, mechanism, and safety of Lyell’s novel T-cell therapeutic products
  • Analyze, interpret, and present in vivo pharmacology study data in research project team meetings
  • Ensure timely and accurate collection of study data in various database and ELN, and generate high quality in vivo pharmacology study reports for external publications and regulatory filings
  • Manages a group of experienced research associates, study timelines, and resource allocations 
  • Collaborate with the manager of vivarium operations to maintain a well-functioning vivarium that anticipates the needs of its users and Lyell’s research organization
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable environmental, animal welfare, IACUC, and other regulations, protocols, and policies, and practice of 3R principles

Preferred Experience:

  • Strong and up-to-date understanding of comparative immunology, T-cell biology, and translational animal models of adoptive cell therapies for solid tumors
  • Strong experience with assessing adoptive T-cells (CAR-T, TCR-T cells) in translational animal models (e.g., syngeneic, xenogeneic, & humanized mouse models of solid tumors)
  • Experience with complex animal models (e.g., orthotopic & transgenic mouse models of solid tumors) and advanced bioimaging platforms such as Pekin Elmer IVIS® Spectrum and Quantum® GX mCT systems
  • Proved record of successful management, mentoring, and career development of research associates and scientific staff, and management of vivarium, and external CROs
  • Experience testing and interpreting PK models of small and large molecules, and ability to apply to PK analysis of adoptive T-cell therapy

Preferred Education:

  • PhD with minimum of 5 or 8 years of relevant experience (including post-Doc) in Immunology, Oncology, or related field

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Strong collaboration, project management, data analysis and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in data analysis using Prism®, FlowJo®, FCS Express®, Excel® or equivalents 
  • Proficiency using office software such as Microsoft Word® PowerPoint® or equivalents to generate reports and presentations
  • Proficiency using in vivo study data collection and management software such as Overwatch® and BioVolume®
